Lindy Hop is a dance born in the 1920s and 1930s in Harlem, New York. It’s inspired by charleston and tap dancing, and has its roots in afro-american dances. The Lindy Hop rhythm evolved from the music of the big band era and the swinging jazz of the period, and it is still danced to this style of music. Towards the end of the 40s it disappeared from the popular scene, but it got its renessaince during the 80s, and now it’s present all over the world.
Lindy Hop is essentially a fun, energetic and authentic retro swing dance, encouraging creativity and improvisation. Most importantly, Lindy Hop is a social dance, where meeting new people, dancing and enjoying the music is the essence.
